Week 17 and Week 18 fantasy football review

Three games in eight days and a lot of Premiership footballers will have been too tired to go out to celebrate New Year (not Stevie G though obviously!). After the dust has settled, the league has become even tighter, with even Wigan in 8th place still looking over their shoulder nervously. And Aston Villa have overhauled Arsenal and have their sights on Chelsea in 2nd place!

The diamond geezers in week 17 were Manchester City’s Stephen Ireland (37.64) and Felipe Caicedo (46.91), as Hull looked more like relegation fodder than UEFA Cup challengers in a 5-1 defeat. Week 18 saw arguably three of the top four midfielders in the Premiership assert their dominance; Gerrard (36.64), Lampard (32.10) and Arteta (37.75). Meanwhile plonker of the week was Kamil Zayatte who managed a score of -12 in week 18, ranking him alongside Gareth Bale as outfield players with the worst weekly score of the season!

Team of the week in week 17 was Batterseadon's team with 256 points and not surprisingly 5 Manchester City players. Week 18 saw Charm's team (206.21) and jacraziness's team (203.60) manage the unlikely feat of scoring over 200 points in a one-game week!

We have a new leader on S11…Phoenix has moved 50 points clear thanks to a couple of stunning scores. Finally, wishing all Starting 11 players a happy and successful 2009!

Week 16 Fantasy Football Roundup

It was a big weekend for Aston Villa as they broke into the top four, picking up 3 points against Bolton while all the other frontrunners could only draw. Hull continue to defy gravity, as they drew 2-2 with Steven Gerrard at Anfield. Blackburn and West Brom are adrift at the bottom of the table and the Rovers will be looking for an inspirational new manager, or failing that may turn to Graeme Souness again.

Over in fantasy-land, Ashley Young (24.96 points) and Gabby Agbonlahor (34.32) were the stars, and Heurelho Gomes (22.50) seems to have got his early season blues behind him with another nice score. Will he shut up shop against Fulham and Newcastle or produce another moment for those Xmas howler compilation DVDs? Give us your opinion over in the Player Picks thread on the forum.

Meanwhile on the S11 leaderboard, like in the Premiership its kaleidscoping rapidly and even Wookie Army and Spurs Legends in 9th and 10th place will fancy their chances. The Team of the Week award goes to Jamban FC with 165.89 points, inspired by his or her genius pick of the Villa trio (Young, Agbonlahor and Laursen).
